  Other fund raising events were organised with much support being given by the local council. Here by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Robert Carr can be seen with Mel Diack and Gordon Moore at a Sherry Fair in the Lancaster Town Hall .

Work commenced on 4th June 1979 with the official turf cutting being completed by the then Mayor of Lancaster Mrs Ivy Welldrake witnessed by Gordon Moore, Mel Diack and Councillor Jean Yates. The project was approved as a Manpower Services Commission, providing work for four men and eight youngsters.
