Five riders from the club went over to Mallorca for a training week at the end of February. The five riders were, Gary ‘Guffer’ Vose, Paul ‘Bionic Man’ Mclaughlin, Adrian ‘KOM’ Dalgleish, Robert ‘Fowl Mouth Clochard’ Ford and finally Clem ‘Seven Scoops’ Coady. With the winter blues put behind the riders and into the hot summer sun of Palma Nova, the week had the promise of some excellent riding

Bike transportation produced several problems for Clem’s bike, with a damaged stem on day one, which inevitably led him to be ripped off by the locals. This was followed by several small mechanical problems later on in the week. Fortunately everybody else’s bike survived the transportation.

Interclub competitions continued throughout the week being continually invented by Mr Guffer, who won several of the most important competitions, such as, ‘who can get the first shower’, ‘who can spread the jam on their bread first’, and ‘who can get in the pool first’. However the majority of these important inter club competitions were only announced to the group as Mr Guffer himself was half way through the completing the competition – we all would still like to congratulate Mr Guffer for his success in those important competitions.

The cycling competitions however told a different story; Gary won the first stage, which was a nice flat route with one minor climb at the end, won by Bionic Mclaughlin. Through his good fortune Gary was also crowned as ‘king of the Soller’ on the second day as he remembered where the top of the climb was.

The third day saw a small recovery ride around the local area with surprisingly no competitions. The fourth day saw a new champion on the Soller – Adrian Dagliesh who stole the victory of the Soller and Coll de Sa Batalla, which gave him the crown of King of the Mountains. The Clochard worked hard up the final climb of the day Helping Clem reach the summit - muchos gratias. The Stage saw another win by Gary Vose, many appologies I stand corrected.
